What is happening to our bees?
"Over the past few years, we have seen a sudden decline in the bee population.
Ten years ago, beekeepers in the United States raised the alarm that thousands of their hives were mysteriously empty of bees.
To make things worse, we are also losing many of our populations of wild bees.
Losing bees can have tragic consequences, for us as well as them.
Ten years after the initial alarm, what is the current status of the world's bee populations, and how far have we come towards understanding what has happened?" -ABC.net
The bees are an important part of the world ecosystem. As a result, it is important that we take care of them and make sure that they thrive becaue if they can't, they will all die and hurt the world both economically and environmentally.
By when are all bees expected to perish?
In the last five years 30% of the bee population has disappeared, and one-third of the bee colonies have perished. There is no exact estimate of when all of the bees are expected to go extinct, but with the current rate of bees 'disappearing' it could be within our lifetime.
Why are they perishing?
The bees are perishing at an alarming rate due to habitat loss, use of pesticides, diseases, and climate change, according to the United States Fish and Wildlife Service.
